Another year has passed and it is that
time when we reflect on what has passed and contemplate what we hope to
achieve. Rather than try to summarize
everything that has happened, I am leaving 2016 behind and looking to the
future. Resolutions are difficult. Too much pressure. Instead, I am looking to
find one word to inspire and motivate me for the upcoming year that can assist
me personally and as a workforce professional.
Believe
The word believe implies that there is
something magical in the world that each person can tap into. People can believe in things or people.
Believe implies wonder for children such as imaginary figures or that as adults
we should believe in a greater goodness of mankind. As workforce professionals, we
can believe in the capability of our job seekers to achieve their employment
goals.
Dream
When we dream, our minds wander and
explore possibilities. Before we set goals, we dream of possibilities to determine
what we desire. Dreaming allows for the mind to see what the end result looks
like. The saying “it all starts with a dream” comes is a reminder that all
goals start with dreams. Before your next goals setting session with
your customers and clients, start with a dreaming session.
Hope
Hope is that internal drive that keeps
people alive during difficult times. When asked why people do things and what
the motivation was for anything, so many people will say indicate that hope is
the reason. It is the reason for perseverance through challenges and
barriers. Workforce professionals should
remember that for so many people, they are the hope to overcome problems.
All three of these are great contenders
for my word for 2017, but each of them does not exactly give the feeling of
what I am looking to for my theme. As a workforce professional, I am looking
for one word that will encompass dream, hope, and believe. I am looking for one
word that can be applied to working with job seekers, business customers, and
with other workforce professionals. The one word that I choose, should be
applicable to my personal life as well. This word is my theme for the year.
After much thought, I have decided on my
word. I choose “do.” Each time I do, I
am acting out my dreams, hopes, and beliefs. By doing, I am making myself
better, learning something new about myself, my surroundings, or about other
people. I do choose to be a better workforce professional in 2017. My one word for 2017 is “do.” What is your
one word for 2017?
